Since the Pilates fitness system was first created at the beginning of the 20th century, it has helped hundreds of thousands of people develop strength and a higher level of physical fitness. Saint Francis Medical Center’s Fitness Plus launched its Pilates program eight years ago and it has garnered a following of Pilates enthusiasts with classes filling up quickly.
And now, Saint Francis Medical Center’s Fitness Plus is putting a greater emphasis on its Pilates program through its new Pilates studio, which offers the following features:
- Double the size of the old studio
- Five reformers
- More space for mat work
- Several TRX suspension trainers
Carlen Mulholland, PhD, ATC
Carlen graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training. She received her master’s degree from Eastern Illinois University and PhD from Middle Tennessee State University. Carlen has more than 10 years of experience in preventing, evaluating and rehabilitating biomechanical problems. She has worked with a variety of populations, from youth athletes to college athletes, industrial athletes and the general public. She enjoys being outside with her husband and two sons, training for a race, or riding motorcycles with her dad.

Kristen Roe, Yoga & Pilates Instructor

Kristen graduated from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. An active pilates and yoga student for years, she received her RYT 200 in 2011. She combines her energetic practice with a strong focus on the breath and alignment along with a gentle hands on support. Her sense of humor and gentle approach make her classes fun and challenging.
Kristen loves to spend her spare time with her husband and daughter. She enjoys traveling and scuba diving.
